Gert Batenburg
Background
Born in Puttershoek in 1960. Graduated from the Academy for Visual Arts in Rotterdam, Department of Architectonic Design. Has since 1983 been engaged as interior architect and as furniture designer for a number of leading furniture collections, including those of Montis / Interart, Metaform, Lande B.V. and Hennie de Jong Int. Collections. The DIAF folding screen designed by him for Dimico won in 1998 an important design award, the HTC trophy. His designs are simple, but never neutral or sober. They are often friendly, sympathetic, optimistic or even faintly amusing in character.
